Bidzina Ivanishvili’s center-left ruling party won 53% of the vote. They are followed by the opposition blocs Coalition for Changes, with 11.2%, Unidad, with 9.8%, Strong Georgia, with 9.04%, and Gajaria for Georgia, with 8.2%.
The first preliminary results on actual voting published by the Central Electoral Commission of Georgia indicate a clear victory for the ruling party, Georgian dream, with the 52.99% of the votes, while the rest of the candidates remain below 12%.
Georgian Dream has obtained 935,004 votes, 52.99%, ahead of Coalition for Change (11.2% and 197,619 votes), Unity-National Movement (9.83% and 173,510 votes), Strong Georgia (9.02% and 159,306 votes ), Gajaria-For Georgia (8.22% and 145,205 votes). The rest did not reach the minimum 5 percent.
This result will allow the ruling party to form a government on its own, something the opposition tried to prevent.
This data corresponds to 97% of tables with electronic voting, 90% of all tables in total. Participation was 58.94%. The final results on the counting of physical ballots will be known on Sunday.
Georgian Dream is the coalition of centre-left founded in 2012 by billionaire Bidzina Ivanishviliwho succeeded in dethroning the United National Movement from government in the parliamentary elections of the same year and rose to become head of government, although he left office just over a year later and appointed Irakli Garibashvili as his successor. Since then, Ivanishvili has been considered the shadow leader.
Georgian Dream is criticized by the opposition and the West for its approach to the Kremlin, expressed in the refusal to join the sanctions against Russia over the war in Ukraine, the establishment of flights between both countries and the adoption of various repressive laws similar to existing standards in Russia.
The elections, which were attended by more than 1,700 foreign observers from 76 international organizations and more than 23,000 local observers from 111 national organizations, were relatively peaceful, although some altercations occurred.
