In the Carinthian Cup Derby – WAC ace against Pacult: “I didn’t want to shoot!”

Date:

What a great derby between WAC and Austria Klagenfurt! Only the 19th (!) penalty took the Lavanttal team to the quarter-finals of the ÖFB Cup. WAC goalkeeper Lukas Gütlbauer heard this from the referee after the game and that is why Wolfsberg chairman Dietmar Riegler was already convinced of promotion at half time. . .

So the “overtime experts” have struck again! No domestic team has needed extra time in the cup more often in recent years than the WAC – ten times (!) in the last 20 matches! Four of them received penalties, the last two of which were missed: in the ’22 semi-final against Salzburg and last year in the eighth finals against Leoben. And on Wednesday there was a big party after this high-level penalty shootout.
