Bullying, discrimination, physical attacks – workplace violence has many faces. It mainly affects people in service professions. The workplace should not be a place where you have to worry about your safety. However, for many, the reality is different. The ÖGB Tirol warns of far-reaching consequences. Those who don’t get help often have to suffer.
When you think of violence, physical attacks are probably the first thing that comes to mind. But violence starts much earlier: “For example with insults, humiliation or exclusion,” says Philip Wohlgemuth, chairman of the Austrian Trade Union Confederation (ÖGB) in Tyrol. All sectors are affected, but especially public transport, restaurants and hotels, the security sector, health care, care, emergency services, service professions, cash handling and public administration (see graph). According to Wohlgemuth, facilities with private or invisible and isolated workplaces are also at risk.
