The impact was apparently so severe that the bull died on the spot despite an emergency stop. A bull that got lost on the track in the Innviertel at night had a fatal accident. The driver and a passenger survived the accident without any injuries. However, the train car was deformed.
A driver (58) drove a train towards Ried im Innkreis on Friday evening. At around 11.30pm a bull suddenly appeared on the tracks in the Wippenham area.
Despite immediate emergency braking, the man was unable to avoid a collision with the cattle. The bull was hit by the locomotive and suffered fatal injuries on impact.
The driver and a passenger were uninjured in the accident. However, the railcar was damaged and had to be towed to Ried train station. Firefighters recovered the bull’s carcass from the tracks. The route was reopened around 12:23 p.m.
