Fear of children – Wolf in Mölltal comes to the stable door

Date:

The wolf in the Carinthian Mölltal still causes many sleepless nights. The alpine season is still young and the farmers are already complaining about the first cracks. But it’s not just the animals that are at risk. The Taurer family is also afraid of the children and has taken steps to protect them.

“My husband ran into the house excitedly after seeing a wolf right behind our house,” said Claudia Taurer, who runs a farm in Stall with her family. She is not only afraid of her horses, chickens, sheep, goats and puppies, but also of the children. “Boys and girls stay with us every day. Some have rented their horses here. So there is always something to do there.”

“We never let the animals or our children out of our sight”
The wolves that have been roaming the Möll Valley for months and venturing into settlements are of great concern to her. “The little ones can no longer play in the woods. Everyone is afraid. We never let the animals or our children out of our sight. The predator has already wreaked havoc in our valley,” the 48-year-old laments. “I’m really worried about my family!” Taurer has now secured her farm.

“As soon as it gets dark, we don’t go outside anymore. We drive to the neighbors. The entire space is equipped with spots and motion detectors. We also have a radio that is switched on outside,” says the farmer’s wife. “But we always have to take those measures. alternate, otherwise the animal will get used to it.”

Only on Saturday did the farmers make a terrible discovery during the daily inspection on the Alm in the Wölla Valley: “The Alpine season has not even really started yet and we are already finding shredded sheep.”
