Just on the day that the federal government finally sealed the end of mandatory corona vaccination, the Corona Commission confirmed an increase in the risk of infection in the country. The increasing number of infections in the current corona wave has meanwhile led to the traffic light for all of Austria being classified yellow again. This means that the so-called medium risk applies to all of Austria.
As a result, the states of Burgenland, Lower Austria, Salzburg, Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Vienna are also assessed as medium risk. The states of Carinthia, Upper Austria and Styria remain green-yellow, so there is a low risk in them.
The rate of infection is accelerating again
The more contagious ommicron variants BA.4/BA.5 are already dominant nationally. “It can therefore be assumed that the dynamics of the infection process will continue to accelerate,” the experts expect. This was also apparent from the consortium’s forecast this week.
The Commission also pointed out that according to this forecast, the occupancy rate in normal departments will increase in the next two weeks to an occupancy rate of 4.7 percent, exceeding the average systemic risk threshold. According to forecasts, a sharp increase to 4.5 percent can also be expected in the field of intensive care.
Even simpler rules prevent slipping
It should be noted that the risk number has been compounding differently over the past two weeks, making it more difficult to slip into less favorable color zones. It mainly concerns an ommicron deduction and the fact that low test numbers or the associated higher positive percentages no longer affect the staining.
