Working with space technology using robots

Date:

Even better than the highly gifted hands of surgeons, robotic arms — with space technology now presented in Vienna — guide the scalpel.

The big truck rolled through Vienna at dawn. Unrecognizable from the outside: the truck, which weighs several tons, has surgical technology of the future worth millions of euros in its “belly” and – coming from Graz, as part of a Europe-wide roadshow – also stopped in front of the Ferris wheel.

“This is space technology at its most futuristic. Because we have developed a robot-assisted surgery system that could actually come from another planet,” said “Medtronic” experts Wolfgang Deutschmann and Sebastian Mörth.

“Revolutionary Operations”
In fact, the medical miracle with the inconspicuous “Hugo” can even replace the hands of gifted surgeons. They can put the scalpel aside in the Prater. Because Thursday, for the first time, Viennese doctors could get and ‘operate’ robotic hands from a control station using three-dimensional real-time images. Deutschmann hopes the system will be introduced in Austria soon: “It will revolutionize business operations.”
