Michelin has announced that it will close two of its production plants in France, which employ 1,254 workers, Cholet and Vannes, by 2026 and transfer part of the latter’s production to Vitoria-Gasteiz.
The reasons for these closures given by the French tire manufacturer are: Asian competition on the market for van and truck wheels and the “deterioration of competitiveness in Europe”.
The company’s production director, Pierre Louis Dubourdeau, explained at a press conference on Tuesday that there is a redundant capabilities taking into account the realities of the market and that the activity of the two factories will be shared among others engaged in the same activity in Europe.
Dubourdeau specifically stated that Vannes productionspecialized in metal reinforcement for truck tires, will move to the production centers in Épinal, France, and Vitoria-Gasteiz.
As for the cholet activitywhere van tires are manufactured will move to the Cuneo centers in Italy and Olsztyn in Poland.
