Everything is safe in the hospital: a four-year-old boy wakes up from a coma after a swimming accident

Date:

The tragic swimming accident of a little boy from Hallein (Salzburg) – the “Krone” reported – has now taken a positive turn. The little one was woken up from an artificial deep sleep and is on the mend.

Readers of ‘Krone’ know: when a couple from Hallein wanted to leave the Watzmann thermal baths in Berchtesgaden, near the border, around 9:20 p.m., they lost sight of their little Levi Matthias. Two girls from Franconia (both twelve) found the boy motionless in the water.

Good luck in case of bad luck
A private emergency doctor and the lifeguard immediately initiated resuscitation measures before the boy was transferred to Salzburg by helicopter. There, water and vomit were immediately aspirated from the lungs in the shock chamber.

Happy birthday in deep sleep
Particularly tragic: the little one spent his fourth birthday in a deep sleep on Sunday. As the university hospital confirmed to Krone on Wednesday, the boy is on the mend. And: There is no risk of permanent damage.

On Tuesday, Levi Matthias woke up from the artificial shock and will be transferred from the pediatric intensive care unit to the normal ward during the day. The mother beamed and said with a wink, referring to her boy’s Spiderman action figure, “He’s a real fighter!”

Medically speaking, Levi Matthias is doing ‘very well’, department doctor Johannes Brandner reported on Wednesday. “We would like to thank all the doctors and nurses,” his parents said. This is partly due to the perfect interaction between first aiders, the team in the shock room and in the intensive care unit.
