The path became increasingly narrow and returning was probably no longer possible. A truck driver in Stans in Tyrol apparently thought to himself on Wednesday evening: close your eyes and keep driving! But the trip turned out to be a fiasco.
Early on Wednesday evening, a Croatian truck driver (24) drove a fully loaded timber truck towards the valley on the so-called Heuberg near Stans, despite the existing driving ban. The young man was probably the victim of his navigation system. His destination was a sawmill in Vomperbach, he later told the police.
Trees have prevented even worse things
The path chosen by the Croat on Heuberg is narrow and not suitable for heavy vehicles. It happened as it was supposed to happen: the driver maneuvered his heavy vehicle further and further into the dead-end street. The logging truck eventually overturned in a curve. Trees prevented the heavy vehicle from crashing.
The Stans fire brigade as well as the rescue, police and mountain rescue from Schwaz had to leave. The driver survived the accident unscathed, but it was not possible to recover the heavy vehicle that evening.
