More and more cases – espionage for China: ex-US military arrested

Date:

An American has been arrested in Frankfurt am Main for allegedly spying for the Chinese secret service. He is said to have offered sensitive information from the US military. The case is not the first arrest for suspected espionage for China in Germany this year.

The now arrested man is said to have worked for the American armed forces in Germany until recently. In this context he came across information that he offered to the Chinese secret service. Karlsruhe authorities said no transfer had likely taken place. What exactly the information was about initially remained unclear.

The man is said to have been dissatisfied with his former employer. Whether this was the motive for his offer of Chinese jobs remains to be clarified. The suspect’s apartment has already been searched. It will be decided on Thursday whether the American will be taken into custody or not.

Uproar surrounding Krah’s ex-employee
In April, the federal prosecutor’s office in Düsseldorf and Bad Homburg arrested three Germans for allegedly passing on information about military technology. The arrest of a former employee of AfD MEP Maximilian Krah also caused a stir at the time. He was accused of passing on information from the EU Parliament and spying on Chinese opposition figures in Germany (see video above).

In early October, a Chinese woman working for a logistics service provider at Leipzig/Halle Airport was arrested for espionage. She allegedly passed on information about flights, cargo and passengers to the former Krah employee. This mainly concerned the transport of military equipment and people with connections to a German defense company.
