With “Krone Area” – Finally the Danube Island Festival 2022 starts in Vienna

Date:

After two “downsized” editions, another Danube Island festival will start on Friday, just like then. Under the motto #DreamTeamWien and with free entry, the spectacle on and off stage is guaranteed.

It’s finally ready for the biggest open air festival in Europe! Until Sunday, the Vienna Danube Island between Nordbrücke and Reichsbrücke will be transformed into a unique party, information and sports mile. A total of 14 different themed islands and eleven stages offer 600 hours of program for every taste – and of course with free entrance:

“Celebrating, dancing and singing together, enjoying the action program and at the same time taking advantage of the extensive advice offer and learning more about current challenging topics – that is what the Danube Island Festival stands for this year,” explains Barbara Novak, state party. secretary of the SPÖ Vienna.

This year, for example, there is a service island where you can get information about inflation, healthcare and the labor market free of charge and without registration.

Climate-friendly and safe to the top acts
Wiener Linien is increasing the frequency to ensure that all visitors can reach the 4.7 kilometer long festival site quickly, easily and above all in a climate-friendly way. Arriving by bike is also possible, although bicycles are not allowed on the premises – there are plenty of bike racks at Handelskai and Reichsbrücke.

Free shuttle service for people with disabilities
For people with disabilities, there is also a free shuttle service to the Vienna Danube Island Festival 2022.

Pure action in the Crown area“
In any case, the heart of the Danube Island Festival is the “Krone Area”, which also houses the Ö3 festival stage, where stars such as Mathea, Nico Santos, Umberto Tozzi, Stefanie Werger and Peter Cornelius take the microphone until Sunday. For example, those interested can try out baseball, taekwondo or flag football or prove their mettle at the bag jump. In addition, the rescue dog relay shows their skills here.

Figures, data and facts
The festival can come up with interesting tidbits again. In total about 40 kilometers of cable has been laid, including for 21 light towers and loudspeaker systems and 16 video walls. Over the past few weeks, 100 tents have been set up and 40,000 rolls of toilet paper (for 60 vacuum toilets and 30 toilet containers) have been brought in. There are one million (!) reusable cups – and twelve collection points – available.
