War crimes? – Attack on Odessa, drones over Russia

Date:

Since the start of the war of aggression against Ukraine, Russia has systematically shelled cities and other civilian targets. That was also the case on Saturday evening. But the aggressor does not calm down either.

According to authorities, two high-rise buildings, several private residential buildings and the warehouses of a private company were damaged during the overnight Russian attack on the Ukrainian port city of Odessa. Ten cars were completely burned out by the fire caused by the impact and other vehicles were damaged.

A woman was murdered. “13 other people, including two children, were injured,” the Odessa regional prosecutor’s office said. Investigations have been launched into suspected war crimes.

The photos from Odessa are shocking:

Drones are haunting Russia again
Russian air defenses in turn reported Ukrainian drone attacks in the south of the Bryansk region. Fifteen Ukrainian drones were intercepted and neutralized, Bryansk Governor Alexander Bogomas said. There were no injuries or damage, he wrote on Telegram.

In addition, according to the secret service, Ukraine attacked the Alexinsky chemical plant in the Tula region of Russia with drones on Saturday evening, a senior employee of the Ukrainian service SBU told Reuters news agency. The factory produces gunpowder, ammunition and weapons. The attack was part of a strategy to attack factories serving the war against Ukraine, the employee continued.

Borrell, EU foreign policy chief, for talks in Kiev
Meanwhile, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell traveled to the Ukrainian capital Kiev on Saturday shortly before leaving office. In view of the election victory of Republican Donald Trump as president in the US and concerns about an end to American aid, he assured Ukraine of the EU’s support.

During the election campaign, Trump sharply criticized the US billions in aid to Ukraine and also announced that he would end the war in Ukraine within “24 hours” before taking office. His election victory this week raised concerns, especially in Kiev. Ukraine fears that Trump may not only end US support, but also want to force the country to give up much of the territory occupied by Russia.

“Nobody knows exactly what the new government will do,” Borrell said. He also pointed out that US President Joe Biden still has two months to make decisions. Biden is considered a close ally and supporter of Ukraine. Europeans must still “seize this opportunity to build a stronger and united Europe,” the EU’s foreign policy chief warned.
