If you don’t have your thickest winter coat ready yet, do so next week at the latest: because it will be chilly and foggy. Depending on the time of year, early temperatures are often in the negative range and reach a maximum of eleven degrees during the day at the beginning of the week.
Although it will remain dry throughout the country next week, the morning on Monday will start again with dense fog. Mainly in the north and east of Austria, but also on the eastern edge of the Alps, in southern Styria and in numerous inner Alpine basins and valleys. In all likelihood, the sun will not be visible there even in the afternoon. Outside the typically foggy areas, for example in the mountains, sunny weather predominates. There will be dense clouds at first, but this will also be the case from the middle of the afternoon. These will slowly dissolve the last fog fields in Vorarlberg and Tyrol and will also bring some raindrops here in the evening.
Minus four degrees in the morning hours
Temperatures in the morning are between minus four and plus five degrees. According to the current forecast from Geosphere Austria, three to eleven degrees can be expected during the day.
The day starts again with mist and high fog
Tuesday is similar to Monday in the morning hours. The day starts with fog and high mist. At least the sun shines in the mountains. However, considerably more clouds are moving over the west of the country. These also bring local rain during the first hours of the day in Tyrol and Vorarlberg and occasionally in Salzburg. According to experts, clouds in the west will become lighter in the afternoon. Early temperatures are again estimated at minus three to plus five degrees. During the day, a maximum of ten degrees is possible. It will probably be warmest in the western half.
Only up to ten degrees with sunshine
Wednesday will initially remain cloudy, especially in the lowlands, but also in the Alpine valleys. The sun only appears at higher altitudes. Although some areas of fog and high fog will clear during the day, some areas will remain cloudy throughout the day, especially in the plains in the east and in some basins and depressions in the south. In the morning the temperature drops to minus five to plus two degrees, and during the day the thermometer rises to three to seven degrees. When the sun shines it can get warm up to ten degrees.
It will remain mainly cloudy on Thursday
Widespread fog and high fog can also be expected over the lowlands in the north, east and southeast on Thursday. During the day the fog may partly lift, but it will remain cloudy in places. Otherwise the sun is mainly visible. In the morning temperatures are between minus four and plus two degrees; it is even colder in the inner Alps. Daily maximum temperatures are forecast at three to nine degrees, depending on fog or sunshine.
Sun possible again until Friday
At the end of the working week there are still fog fields and high fog in the country. As the day progresses, they disappear in most regions in the north and east, and then the sun actually shines quite broadly. In the morning temperatures should be between minus four and plus two degrees, and during the day between four and ten degrees. In the west the weather can be even milder.
