A man (47) poured a flammable liquid on his ex-partner and himself in Buxtehude in Lower Saxony, Germany, and then set them on fire.
Neighbors had previously reported a violent altercation between a man and his wife to police. While police were on their way, more emergency calls came in reporting a kitchen on fire. Initially, the emergency services, fire brigade and police were deployed. According to the police, the public was not in danger.
Woman survived; her condition is unclear
The 47-year-old died in the apartment from his serious injuries, police said. The 42-year-old was taken to hospital by helicopter with serious burns. It was still unclear whether there was a danger to life and which flammable liquid was involved.
