A seemingly innocent text message – supposedly from his bank – costs a 37-year-old Bosnian living in Gmunden a lot of money. He had fallen for a con man. The unknown perpetrator is now being sought; there are pictures of him.
On June 3, 2024, around 12 noon, an unknown perpetrator stole the account details of a 37-year-old Bosnian from the Gmunden district. The trick: he sent the victim a text message in the name of his bank. There was a link in it. The victim clicked on the link and entered the user number and PIN code into the input mask.
Second mobile phone registered
The 37-year-old then received another text message – this time from his bank. He was told that another mobile phone was registered for a mobile payment function. The 37-year-old initially thought nothing of it, because he had just bought a new mobile phone.
A lot of money withdrawn
Only after a few debits did he realize that he had become a victim of a crime and he filed a report. The man lost 17,000 euros. There are photos of the unknown perpetrator. The Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office has ordered a public search.
