On Wednesday evening, a fire devil attracted the attention of the Tyrolean police. The man (60), apparently a passionate smoker, set fire to a waste container. But it wasn’t a faux pas, it was pure intention.
Shortly before 7 p.m., smoke was reported at the control center in the station building in St. Johann in Tirol (Kitzbühel district). Presumably a rubbish bin had caught fire. The alerted fire brigade was able to immediately extinguish the fire and ventilate the building. Fortunately, no one was injured.

But how did the fire start? “A person providing information indicated that there was a suspicious male who had been smoking in the station building prior to the outbreak of the fire,” police said. During the subsequent investigation, the suspect was found in the vicinity of the train station. “He was questioned about the facts of the case and admitted that he intentionally set the trash can on fire,” investigators said. However, he did not provide any information about the motive. The suspect is a 60-year-old Austrian.
