According to Ukrainian military observers, Russian troops have continued to advance in eastern Ukraine. Russian forces continued to gain ground on Thursday in the small town of Kurakhove in the Donetsk region, which was threatened with encirclement and heavily destroyed.
In addition, they advanced towards Kupyansk in the northeastern Kharkiv Oblast. This was confirmed by the Ukrainian General Staff, but the attack was largely repulsed.
Kupyansk is considered a strategically important railway junction on the Oskil River. The area was liberated in the autumn of 2022 as part of a Ukrainian counter-offensive after more than five months of occupation.
Conflicting information
The Ukrainian General Staff emphasized via Telegram that they have full control over Kupyansk. The Russian information that Russian soldiers had gained a foothold in the suburbs was incorrect. “The alleged presence of Russian troops in the city of Kupiansk is not true.”
Drone attacks from Kursk
Ukrainian air defense reported 59 night-time drone attacks from the Russian border region of Kursk on Thursday morning. Of these, 21 drones were shot down in the Sumy, Kharkiv, Poltava and Kiev regions. Another 38 drones have disappeared from the radar, mainly due to the use of electronic defense equipment.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the large-scale Russian invasion with Western help for more than two and a half years.
