France vs Israel – fighting, smoke bombs: riots in the stadium

Date:

Riots broke out in the Stade de France on Thursday evening during the football match between France and Israel in Paris. French and Israeli supporters attacked each other. Spectators fled from the stands and police intervened. Smoke bombs were previously detonated during the Israeli national anthem.

Despite the highest level of security with strict controls, chaotic fans managed to bring smoke bombs into the stadium. They set them on fire when the Israeli national anthem was played.

The police prevented the demonstration march to the stadium
Earlier, an anti-Israel demonstration took place in Paris. Among the nearly 350 participants were a number of masked people. They wanted to march towards the stadium, but were stopped by the police. The officers were equipped with helmets, shields and water cannons. The mounted police also intervened.

Incendiary images against Netanyahu
The demonstrators equated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with Adolf Hitler. There were also many left-wing French people among the participants. The ban on Palestinian flags was ignored.

For fear of riots, all shops and restaurants around the stadium were closed on match day.
