A smoldering cigarette probably led to a major fire in Linz in December last year, in which several people were injured. The perpetrator, a 58-year-old man, must now appear in court.
Dramatic scenes played out at midnight on December 3 in the Kleinmünchen district of Linz: the fire brigade rescued a man from his burning apartment on the top floor of a building on Schörgenhubstrasse. The tenant (58) and four other people were injured.
The perpetrator had a blood alcohol level of 4.5
In April, it was revealed that the suspected detonator had drunk 4.5 per mille and was unhealthy due to alcohol poisoning, according to a psychiatric report. The prosecutor does not want to let the arsonist go free. Now the charge for negligence in causing a conflagration (§ 170 StGB) is ready, said spokeswoman Ulrike Breiteneder.
A trial date has not yet been set.
