The old town is safe – mountain cleaners release everything after checking

Date:

After the fire brigade operation on Saturday, the professionals from the city of Salzburg checked the Mönchsberg – ten came. For three hours the mountain cleaners drove down the high rock face step by step. Residents and passers-by can feel safe again around the House of Nature.

Since Monday it seems certain. The high rock wall at the House of Nature does not pose a major danger. A rock had fallen on a car. The mountain cleaners from Salzburg came to a reassuring conclusion.

The “Krone” reached its boss Jörg Eßl late Monday morning. The three-hour inspection of the Mönchsbergwand had already been completed. “We went down the wall with all our men behind us. So we didn’t have to block traffic for so long. “We have not found any eruption sites,” the master mountain cleaner was able to clarify. Only one stone ended up in the Gstättengasse. But control is important. Because the city mountain is not without the risk of falling rocks.

“Compressed pile of gravel”
“The Mönchsberg is a compressed pile of gravel from the last ice age. Stones are released from the conglomerate all year round,” says Eßl. The mountain cleaners therefore regularly knock it down very carefully and remove plants that penetrate the conglomerate with their roots. This year they checked the entire mountain in June and July.

The closure of the area and the drone flight of the professional fire brigade caused a lot of excitement in the area around Anton-Neumayr-Platz on Saturday evening.
