The entire Burgenland is now an “area with a greatly increased risk of bird flu”. What this means for commercial bird keeping.
Due to the increased number of bird flu cases in recent days, the situation in Austria was reassessed. Since Tuesday, the entire Burgenland has been designated as an “area with a greatly increased risk of bird flu”.
Closed devices necessary
This means: Poultry and birds must be kept permanently in stables or at least in closed facilities that are at least covered at the top, so that contact with wild birds and their droppings is prevented and contact with wild waterfowl is excluded.
Contact must be excluded
This does not apply to companies or households where fewer than 50 birds or only pets are kept indoors and without direct or indirect contact with other birds. Another exception: If ducks and geese are kept in such a way that direct and indirect contact with other birds is excluded – for example through the use of nets.
