Not all superheroes wear capes: In the case of a fire in Attnang-Puchheim, Aldin Sarhatlic took Patrick Maier out of his apartment while other witnesses were filming alone.
In fact, he doesn’t want to talk about it at all. “It was nothing special,” Aldin Sarhatlic (36) said in an interview with “Krone”. The independent painter from Schwanenstadt may have saved someone’s life on June 7.
hung out of window
Patrick Maier (26) was home alone that day when he noticed a fire in a room in his apartment. Since the way out of the apartment was blocked, he opened a window. “There were already a few people watching. I leaned far out because of the smoke,” Maier says.
ladder as a tool
At that moment Sarhatlic walked by: ‘I was having lunch at a construction site nearby. I saw the smoke and a person at the window. Before that, about 30 people just watched and filmed,” he says. While the others just stared, Sarhatlic acted. Looking for a ladder, he met Maier on the first floor and took it out of the apartment.
“I then wanted to go back to the apartment because he said there were animals in it. But there was too much smoke everywhere,” Sarhatlic said. The fire brigade arrived a little later and had the fire under control quickly.
Hamster “Nibbler” survived the fire
For Patrick Maier, two days after the devastating fire, there was a minor miracle. “I’m back in the apartment with my mother and my sister. We found one of our hamsters there. He was still alive, running comfortably in the hamster wheel,” Maier says.
He wants to meet Aldin Sarhatlic soon. “We said we were going for a drink,” Patrick Maier said.
