Shortly after the incident, a person was arrested near the crime scene
Oslo police said on Saturday that at least two people were killed and 19 injured in a shooting at an LGBTI bar in the center of the Norwegian capital. Shortly after the incident, one person was arrested near the crime scene, according to the Oslo police on their Twitter account.
Oslo University Hospital (Ulleval) is on red alert – according to local media reports – because a large influx of injured people was expected. Seven patients have been admitted to Ulleval, while another victim has been transferred to Akershus University Hospital (Ahus), northwest of Oslo, 20 kilometers from the capital.
In addition, 11 more people have been taken to other emergency health centers. Therefore, the Norwegian authorities have registered a total of 19 injuries as a result of the shooting.
The officers initially reported that it was an “unclear situation”, with the participation of multiple perpetrators being considered. “However, all indications point to a lone attacker,” said police spokesman Tore Barstad later, the NRK broadcaster reported.
Similarly, the incident has been described as a “cooperation procedure between the different emergency services in a context of violence with a life-threatening situation to several people” (PLIVO).
The cocktail bar, called the London Pub, is one of three crime scenes. The injured are scattered around a fast food restaurant and Herr Nilsen jazz club, all on Rosenkrantz Street, in central Oslo, Barstad confirms to TV2.
At this time, authorities have not confirmed that it is a hate crime against the LGTBI community.
According to the Norwegian public broadcaster NRK, the Norwegian Minister of Justice and Public Security, Emilie Enger Mehl, has expressed her condolences to the deceased and injured and to everyone involved.
“Norway is a community of trust where everyone should feel safe outside on Saturday evenings,” the policy reads, before confirming that police have arrested an alleged aggressor and work is underway to clarify the circumstances of the event.
The festival ‘Oslo Pride’ has offered the NRK its condolences to the relatives and the injured, in addition to informing the establishment of a crisis team and ‘ongoing dialogue with the police and other authorities’.
This Saturday, the Norwegian capital will host the Pride Parade, one of the most important celebrations of the country’s LGBTI community.
