Some are happy with it, others would like to do without it: the latter are probably mainly drivers who have to drive in these conditions. Snow was already noticeable on the roads in parts of Tyrol. In some cases wearing chains was mandatory!
A cold front was forecast – and it came: it brought a portion of snow. It snowed heavily on Wednesday morning, especially in the Tyrolean Oberland. This was noticeable on the street.
Chains are mandatory on the Fernpass and Arlberg
There was snow on the Fern Pass in the morning. “For vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, chains were required. Due to the circumstances it was a bit tight at times. “But there were no major problems,” the state transport department said in response to a question from “Krone”.
The situation is similar on the Arlberg Pass. Heavy snowfall created wintry conditions in the morning. “There, chains were required for all vehicles, including cars,” the report said.
It was also wintery on the Brenner Pass. The highway (A13) was largely “black” – only in the area of the pass was the road partially covered with snow and mud. Clean-up crews were on hand. According to the police, there have been no known problems so far.
Improvement in the weather in sight
During the morning the snowfall disappeared again. “The afternoon is usually dry and it will be partly sunny, especially around the Inn Valley. The gusty wind then slowly dies down. After the first showers, a lively Tauern wind over East Tyrol ensures a rapid improvement of the weather with lots of sunshine,” says GeoSphere Austria.
