The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided not to raise any objections in the case of suspected Salzburg IS supporter Maria G. and her two children, who have been interned in northern Syria since 2019. The repatriation should begin now.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently working with relevant authorities and international partners to plan the repatriation, the ministry announced on Wednesday evening.
The Federal Administrative Court had ruled last week that the Hallein woman and her children should be returned to Austria together. The court gave six weeks to appeal the ruling. “This legal remedy would not have a suspensive effect and would therefore be de facto irrelevant to the specific case,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The safety of the Austrian operations team and those requiring repatriation is now the top priority. Due to the ongoing fighting in the region, planning such a repatriation is extremely complex. As soon as Maria G. and her children are in Austria, the justice system is responsible.
