Since 2012, the boss and employees of the Salzburger Grill Imbiss near the Kollegienkirche have been waiving their tips. They donate it to charity year after year. The next donation transfer is coming.
Voluntarily foregoing a tip is a rarity. This is exactly what Raymond Mair and his collaborator Christian Schwarzenbrunner take for granted. Since 2012, every cent Mair earns from his sausage stall in the Wiener-Philharmoniker-Gasse in Salzburg has been donated to charity. This year there were almost 14,000 euros in tips – and donations from regular guests.
“As a boss, I wouldn’t accept the tip anyway,” says the sausage stall owner with his heart in the right place. “The thanks are not mine, but Christian’s. He leaves behind a significant amount of money.” Employee Schwarzenbrunner has been frying sausages in the snack bar at the Kollegienkirche since 2015. A tip was a condition of his employment. He happily agreed.
84,000 euros have already been raised and donated
Mair and Schwarzenbrunner both now have families. It is now even easier for them to donate to sick children and their families. Every year the donations go to children’s cancer aid and a butterfly children’s association. Both organizations each receive half of the donations.
A total of 84,000 euros has been raised in this way since 2012 and gone to the clubs. At the beginning of this year, Raymond Mair was concerned about whether enough would come together. For the first time you could pay for currywurst, Bosna and hot dogs with a card. According to Mair, the willingness to tip is actually lower than when paying in cash. In 2024, however, the result of the previous year was 2,000 euros higher. Also because regular customers collected money at private parties and handed over the amount to Mair.
