Police from Gratwein investigated a total of four suspects between the ages of 28 and 67. They allegedly grew and resold cannabis in their shared apartment. Police dog “Poko” is the hero of the story – he has sought out various hiding places in the apartment.
The investigation by the Gratwein Police Department began in October this year when a father filed a complaint out of concern for his adult son. The 40-year-old became a danger to himself due to his drug use; he even had to be rescued from his apartment due to a medical emergency.
As a result, police found 120 grams of cannabis in his house, with a 36-year-old from the Graz district becoming the center of attention as a supplier. The suspicion was quickly confirmed: noticeably high electricity consumption was observed in his single-family home. But the real surprise would come with a search.
Even hide in the wooden floor
In the course of this, drug sniffer dog “Poko” became the hero of the investigation. The four-year-old Belgian shepherd dog, together with his handler Claudia Silgener, was able to track down several drug hiding places in the 36-year-old’s house: they found, among other things, sealed cans of cannabis hidden in the cupboard and paper envelopes with addictive substances hidden between plastic bags.
Particularly gratifying was the success in finding a drug depot that was not visible to the naked eye. This hiding place in the wooden floor under a carpet and a plank would probably have gone unnoticed without the repeated reports of the police dog. In addition to a total of 3.5 kilograms of cannabis, officers also found a used ‘grow tent’ in the attic and a plantation in the basement that was no longer active.
In addition to the 36-year-old, his three housemates, aged between 28 and 67, are now suspected. They allegedly started the drug trade together and are reported to the Graz Public Prosecutor’s Office. The 40-year-old customer who started the business is now receiving medical treatment.
