Major frustration among fans – sold out! What to do about ticket usury?

Date:

The favorite band’s concert sells out in minutes. Just hours later you can find tickets on the Internet – at terrible prices. But can you take action against it? The “Krone” asked organizers, points of sale, consumer advocates and resale platforms.

As is known, supply and demand determine the price. This is especially evident with very limited products and services. This mainly concerns concerts, because there are only a limited number of visitors and therefore only a limited number of tickets. It is difficult to get tickets at mega concerts by bands and artists with many fans. They often sell out within minutes.

The problem with “scalpers”
The result: they can often be purchased tenfold on online platforms a short time later. And they are also bought. That is why the so-called secondary market has developed into a lucrative ‘business’ that is largely served by people who never intended to go to the concert themselves. These ‘scalpers’ simply want to make money and even use computer programs (so-called bots) when buying tickets to outdo the real fans. And that is not prohibited in Austria.
