After the hot start on Friday, the second day of the 39th Vienna Danube Island Festival started much cooler and wetter on Saturday. Despite the rain, hundreds of fans “island hopping” with Austrian gymnast Philipp Jelinek. Federal president Alexander Van der Bellen was also ready for the island. During his “state visit” in the afternoon, the weather was much better, so Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) went to several stations of the festival.
Due to the great interest in his gymnastics class, “Fit with Philipp” presenter Jelinek was awarded a certificate by Mayor Ludwig for his island training for the “record for the largest gymnastics class in the country”. The city manager’s day job was not over yet: he accompanied Federal President Van der Bellen to the security center and to the island “Viennese Helpers”.
The two also visited the Peace Island and posed for the photographers with the Ukrainian band Latexfauna and the Ukrainian flag. It was then so hot that even the politicians could do without their jackets.

Musically, the Donauinselfest is entering its second round with Austropop sounds, with Radio Wien responsible for the central stage near the “Krone” environment on Saturday. The concert by singer Stefanie Werger starts at 7.30 pm, after which Umberto Tozzi provides Italo flair (8.45 pm) and singer-songwriter Peter Cornelius (10 pm) closes the evening.
It gets cozy in the Ö1 culture tent with the comedians Martin Puntigam (6.15 pm) and Christof Spörk (19.30 pm), at 9.30 pm there is also music with the local super group Familie Lässig. After all, the Nocki’s are celebrating their 40th anniversary on the Schlager stage.
