Protest in Munich against the G7 summit starting Sunday in Elmau

Thousands of people have called for the phasing out of fossil fuels, the protection of animal and plant diversity, social justice and action against hunger. The G7 summit will bring together the heads of state and government of the seven major industrialized countries.

About 4,000 people took part in the most striking demonstration to take place in Germany earlier this Saturday in Munich the summit of the G7 countries in Elmau From this Sunday.

Munich police spokesman Andreas Franken estimates that turnout significantly lower than expected by the convening organizations, which expected some 20,000 people on the street.

The demonstration asks for phasing out fossil fuelsthe protection of animal and plant diversity, social justice and action against hunger.

The G7 summit will take place at the Elmau palace complex, near the Bavarian mountain resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, starting Sunday.

Germany hosts the three-day summitwhich will be attended by the heads of state or government of the seven major industrialized countries.

About 18,000 police officers are deployed around the top. There are no known incidents to the police.
