Fear for the passengers of an Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe (IVB) bus early Tuesday evening! When the driver (34) tried to avoid a vehicle, the bus veered off the road. He crashed through a fence, went over a wall and eventually got stuck in a garden shed. The occupants had to be rescued using a ladder.
The spectacular accident happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. Bus W drove on the Weiherburggasse towards Alpenzoo. “To avoid an oncoming sweeper, the 34-year-old bus driver drove onto the sidewalk,” police say.
And then it happened: for an unknown reason, the bus went through the adjacent fence and got stuck in a club or garden house behind it, the investigators continue. The bus towered above the wall at a dizzying height.
Road closed for three hours
According to police, there were 16 passengers on the bus. “Everyone was unharmed, but had to be rescued by the Innsbruck fire brigade.”
The bus, the fence and the garden shed were severely damaged. During the operation and rescue of the bus, Weiherburggasse had to be closed for about three hours.
