The smartphone can now be used as an e-card reader via the “My SV app”. The advantage: Every insured person has the option to give his doctor access to the electronic patient file (ELGA) with e-authorization.
This makes home visits, visits to nursing and retirement homes, telemedical treatments or writing prescriptions much easier, it was said on Wednesday at a joint press conference of the umbrella association of social insurance companies and the medical association.
The co-chair of the Conference of Social Insurers, Peter Lehner, and Edgar Wutscher, vice-president of the Austrian Medical Association, welcomed a “milestone in the digitalization of the healthcare system”.
“A great thing”
This allows a high degree of flexibility, Lehner emphasized, praising the relief for patients. “It is great that we have managed to create a system from the start with little money and through fruitful collaboration that yields a lot for both patients and doctors,” says Wutscher happily.
The cost of the project was estimated at 600,000 euros. It started in February this year and the pilot phase has now been successfully completed with currently 400 applications per week. All doctors in all disciplines are now registered, provided they are connected to the e-card system. Purely elective physicians are therefore not always included.
What should my mobile phone be able to do?
Requirements for use are a smartphone with NFC function, an NFC-compatible e-card and the “My SV app”. The e-authorization gives the selected doctor access to ELGA, just as if the e-card had been inserted into the reader in practice. This means that he has access to the e-medication and e-findings for 90 days and to the e-vaccination certificate for 28 days. The doctor can also store the prescribed medications in the e-medication.
To grant authorization, you must open the “My SV App” on your mobile phone, select the doctor’s name or search and select it using zip code, Lehner explains. You must then hold the e-card against the back of the smartphone, which will give the doctor in question permission to access the e-card system.
Data protection is “1000 percent” guaranteed
No health data would be transferred, only the social security number and identification number. The transfer takes place via end-to-end encryption in the data center, Lehner emphasizes: “It is a 1000 percent perfect system in terms of data protection law.” Furthermore, as an insured person you have the option to check who is an ELGA member and when.
