Strong winds caused the support cable of a material cableway in the Obersulzbachtal (Hohe Tauern) to snap out of its guide. Two Nepalese had to stay in the open cabin at a height of 30 meters for hours before they were finally freed from the difficult situation by the mountain rescue team.
In the early afternoon hours of Saturday, two employees of an alpine club hut in the Obersulzbachtal (Hohe Tauern) found themselves in an emergency situation in the Alps. The two Nepalese citizens were traveling in an open cabin of a material cable car when the support cable suddenly jumped out of the guide due to the strong wind.
The hut was located about 300 meters from the valley station and was over 30 meters high. Therefore, the mountain rescue service had to be alerted and ten men were sent to the scene. Due to the fresh snow, a rescue was only possible under difficult conditions. However, the two were rescued unharmed from the cabin of the material cable car in the early evening hours.
