A woman from Villach had melted wax, which caught fire. Three fire brigades arrived. The woman had to be taken to hospital.
Shortly before 6:30 PM on Wednesday, an emergency call reached the Villach fire brigade: “Flames and smoke are visible from a window on the third floor of an apartment building in the Unterer Fellach district.”
The main fire station in Villach, as well as the FF Pogöriach and the locally responsible FF Fellach were immediately alerted with the keyword “Fire apartment”.
First responders discovered a fire in a kitchen. “The resident escaped from the apartment in time and was able to close the door to the seat of the fire to prevent further smoke from spreading,” reports Martin Regenfelder, deputy commander of the Villach main fire station.
Fire extinguished quickly
A respiratory protection team from the main fire station was able to quickly get the situation in the kitchen under control and quickly extinguish the fire, which had broken out in a pan of melted candle wax.
Using a thermal imaging camera, the facility was examined for embers. The apartment was kept smoke-free using a powerful electric fan.
Tenant injured
The tenant was taken to LKH Villach by the Red Cross and the emergency doctor with injuries of an undetermined nature. “Other residents or animals were not injured and did not require evacuation,” OBI Regenfelder said.
The woman’s quick action prevented something worse from happening. The fire was limited to the place where it started. In addition to the fire brigade, the Red Cross was also present with ambulances, emergency doctors and the police.
