Helping Austrians – 1,030 billion euros: enthusiasm for donations despite the crisis

Date:

Inflation is putting pressure on the hearts of Austrians, but we still give an impressive 1.030 billion euros to charity. The “Krone” is also available with “A Spark of Warmte”. Donations for Animal Protection & Co. are now tax deductible!

It is mainly the small donors who form the backbone of domestic generosity. It is precisely these countries that are currently suffering the most from the wave of inflation. Despite the ongoing economic downturn, people gave almost as much to charity last year as in the record year 2022, which was marked by aid to Ukraine. An incredible (predicted) €1.030 billion in donations for this year means only a slight decline to record levels.

While support for victims in Eastern Europe has declined, the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria and emergency aid at home were important reasons to give: “Despite economic constraints, the population has once again shown how important charity work is in Austria.” ” explains Ruth Williams, Director of the Fundraising Association Austria, who at the same time summarizes the downside of her analysis: “Although only minimal, the trend in donations is negative for the first time. Fewer donations and at the same time significantly higher costs for the organizations unfortunately mean that in practice there is less money available for charitable services.”

“A Spark of Warmth” is once again helping throughout the country
According to the first forecast for the current year, a further decline of four percent is expected in 2024. How much we open our hearts and wallets this coming Christmas season will, more than ever, determine the outcome of this year’s fundraising year.

The traditionally large ‘Krone’ campaign ‘A spark of warmth’ should also help. Ombudsman Barbara Stöckl is pleased: “Our generous community of readers, sponsors and supporters is helping to reduce suffering in the country.”

The helpers expect that the reform of the non-profit organization with incentives for education and animal protection and the cultural sector will have a stimulating effect on donations. A total of 1.44 million Austrians now claim donations worth €407 million as special expenses for tax purposes – meaning two out of every five euros donated are deducted.

You too can help with the QR code!
We live in challenging times. More and more people need support – for themselves, but also for their beloved four-legged friends. Our pet corner “Krone” receives calls every day from desperate pet owners who can no longer even afford food for their dog or cat. “I would rather go without a hot meal before my darling gets hungry,” such statements are no longer uncommon. For many pet owners, a visit to the vet is no longer affordable. That’s where we can help!

“Krone” readers in need receive financial support for urgent operations, and we also distribute large amounts of food to animal food banks and clubs throughout Austria. This is made possible by donations. And there have been positive developments here, especially in the field of animal protection. Because now these are also tax deductible. Support can be done via deposit slip, standing order, but also via QR code – this works quickly and unbureaucratically!

Simply scan the code – and you will be redirected to the website of our association “Vrienden van de Dierenhoek”. Some information must be entered there, which will be immediately forwarded to the Tax Authorities. The tax refund will take place without further action. The association has had the donation quality mark for years and every cent goes directly to animal protection! Because office and personnel costs are entirely borne by the Crown.

Animals are real soul comforters and for many people often the last source of joy in bitter hours. Saving one animal doesn’t change the world, but for that one animal the world changes for the better. Your donation can make a big difference.
