Spectacular accident on Wednesday evening in the Lake Constance municipality of Hard in Vorarlberg. A young BMW driver had crashed head-on into a street lamp, causing a chain reaction that was fatal for several car owners. A drug test on the driver of the accident came back positive.
On Wednesday evening around 9 p.m., a 23-year-old man drove his BMW on the L 202 in Fußach towards Höchst. According to police, for an unknown reason he lost control of his vehicle, left the road to the left and crashed head-on into a street lamp.
The force of the impact caused the street lamp to topple and fall onto several vehicles parked in an adjacent parking lot. The upper arm of the lamp post was torn off and thrown against the rear window of a car parked about 35 meters from the accident scene.
Drug test positive: driver unfit to drive
A saliva test performed on the driver at the scene revealed a drug disorder. The fitness to drive test showed that the 23-year-old was not fit to drive due to this disability. The driver and his two passengers were unharmed and no one else was injured. The driver’s BMW was probably a total loss.
Driver’s license lost, complaint filed
Four vehicles were damaged, some seriously, by the fallen lamp post. In addition, the asphalt in the sidewalk area was cracked. Due to the cleaning work, the L202 in the accident zone was only accessible on one side for more than an hour. The driver’s license of the accident driver was temporarily revoked. He is also reported to the Feldkirch Public Prosecutor’s Office for endangering physical safety and drug-related crimes.
