Now it has been resolved: the majority of politicians in the city of Salzburg voted for a new name for the Nazi-ravaged Heinrich-Damisch-Straße in Parsch.
For the first time, a Nazi street in Salzburg is given a new name. The city’s politicians agreed on this today. In the culture committee, the SPÖ, Bürgerliste/Die Grünen and KPÖ Plus voted in favor of renaming Heinrich-Damisch-Straße to Salzburg-Parsch. The FPÖ and ÖVP spoke out against it.
The street will be renamed Helene-Thimig-Straße in 2025. The city wants to turn the street name change into a pilot for further name changes in the city area.
A committee of historians recommended changing the names of thirteen streets and squares named after incriminating people. In 2021, the majority of the city voted against it.
