He Stuttgart denounced Thursday the “disproportionate and inhumane” controls at the border of Serbia against their fans heading to Belgrade to attend a Champions League match against Red Star. On Wednesday, a group of 500 Stuttgart fans traveling on ten buses were stopped at the Serbian border. According to the Serbian security services, “prohibited objects” were discovered, which justified the “strengthening and strengthening of controls,” Stuttgart explained in a statement.
“According to many Stuttgart fans, the tests carried out were disproportionate and degrading. In addition, there were reports of physical violence against fans,” the Swabian club denounced. The ten buses circled after these checks. Furthermore, the club reported “several violent attacks” against Stuttgart fans in the center of Belgrade on the day of the match (Wednesday).
Frequent actions increase
“These situations are unacceptable. We want to experience football in a free Europe. Instead, we are increasingly faced with disproportionate measures against fans, past convictions, harassment and even, apparently , acts of violence and humiliation,” complained Alexander Wehrle, president of the German club’s board of directors.
Stuttgart reserves the right to formally lodge a protest with UEFA. According to the German runners-up club, the European body has recorded the facts and intends to conduct “its own investigation.”
