The two demonstrations planned for Saturday in the center of Vienna have now been banned by the police. These are the two events “Peace and Neutrality! Against the sugar coalition!” and “Peace and neutrality!”. Reason for this: shopping streets should not be disturbed.
According to the Viennese police, “the right to freedom of doing business for companies in Vienna’s shopping streets and the interest of the general public in an unhindered flow of traffic” outweighed that of the meeting. Because several protests have been announced for Saturday.
Against forming a government without the FPÖ
The ‘Fair Thinking’ and ‘Human Family’ initiatives had originally called for a meeting on November 9, but postponed it again after mass protests. The organizers advertise with slogans such as “for our Austria” and are against the formation of a government without the FPÖ.
Spontaneous rallies are not excluded
It was initially unclear whether more sanctioned meetings would take place. A counter-demonstration had previously been planned at Schwarzenbergplatz. The police do not rule out “spontaneous demonstrations”. These can at best be resolved. The LPD wants to be prepared: “The Vienna police will be on site with sufficient troops to ensure the maintenance of public order and safety.”
