Holidaymakers excluded – sleeping in caravans is prohibited in Palma

Date:

The government of Mallorca’s capital Palma has drawn up new rules of conduct. In the future, locals will no longer be allowed to sleep and live in caravans. It’s about educating people, Mayor Jaime Martínez said on Wednesday.

After all, that is inhumane. Because rental and real estate prices are high in Mallorca, there is currently a housing crisis. Many Spaniards cannot pay the rent, despite having a full-time job. In these cases you should be referred to social services.

Another new scheme is aimed at drivers of electric scooters. In the future, wearing a crash helmet and liability insurance of at least 120,000 euros will be mandatory. Anyone caught without this will pay a fine of 90 or 600 euros. Scooters and bicycles will soon be allowed to drive in 40 km/h areas, but scooters will only be allowed to drive at a maximum speed of 25 km/h.

Holidaymakers are affected by a new regulation regarding city tours. In the future, city guides must be licensed and groups may not exceed 20 people. Loudspeakers or megaphones are also prohibited. The city council also wants to take action against shell players who cheat. The fines for gambling are between 31,000 and 450,000 euros.

Don’t drink in crowds
When it comes to alcohol, it is said that underage consumption and drinking in a crowd are prohibited. However, that has already been the case.

The scheme is expected to come into effect shortly after the start of 2025, after a forty-day objection period. The mayor of Palma is convinced that the majority of the population agrees with the new rules of conduct. He promised that the city government would turn a blind eye to violations by minors or poorer people.
