Attempted murder in Melk – ex-wife attacked with knife in hospital

There was a bloody attack at the state clinic in Melk, Lower Austria, around noon on Saturday. A 43-year-old man with a relevant criminal record is said to have attacked and seriously injured his ex-wife with a knife – with a five-centimeter blade. The 41-year-old suffered numerous lacerations to the head and neck area.

Dramatic police operation Saturday afternoon at the state hospital in Melk: hospital staff warned police after a 43-year-old allegedly attacked his ex-wife with a knife. The 41-year-old Georgian suffered serious injuries to the head and neck area — a six-inch-long and 1-inch-deep cut on the left side of the neck, lacerations to the left ear and eye, and numerous defensive injuries.

Ex-husband caught trying to escape
The ex-husband had already been banned from entering and approaching. According to the victim, the 43-year-old would have followed her by car on her way to work. The bloody attack then took place in the state clinic of Melk.

The alleged perpetrator was caught during an immediately launched manhunt. Detectives from the crime scene group are on site, the National Criminal Investigation Department is taking over the further investigation. The act was also captured by video cameras at the hospital, and the 43-year-old has confessed in part. He stated that he had contacted his ex-wife because of the children. There was no trace of the murder weapon.

The suspect is a drug user
The suspect is also suspected of regularly consuming addictive substances. Drugs were found in the 43-year-old’s car, in which he fled from the crime scene. The public prosecutor’s office in St. Pölten ordered a blood test and admission to the prison of St. Pölten.
