Attnang-Puchheim has had a new priest for three weeks. Fritz Vystrcil is a man who has left his job as a computer scientist and who criticizes the church and sees himself as a psychologist rather than a confessor. He talks about colleagues who suffer from burnout, says what he thinks of TikTok and says: “The comparisons are where the misfortune begins.”
Dressed in a winter coat, a sporty man in his mid-fifties rushes towards us. Fritz Vystrcil has already brought his e-bike from Würzburg, the “normal” one is still in his old house. Three weeks ago the priest came to Attnang-Puchheim from his old workplace. Now he is the new priest there. “I used to sometimes run four times a week, but unfortunately I don’t have time for that at the moment. While running you come up with many good thoughts for the sermon, which can also have benefits for people’s daily lives,” says Father Fritz and despite his exercise he does not seem the least bit stressed. Directly behind the monastery is a beautiful park, the resident of Lower Austria shows us St. George’s Church. ‘The mother of Empress Zita is buried here.’
