The massive mass protests in Georgia continue for the fourth night in a row. They mainly concentrate on the capital Tbilisi.
Numerous people have been injured in clashes between demonstrators and police. The Interior Ministry spoke of 21 police officers who were injured in the capital Tbilisi by stones, fireworks, glass bottles and iron objects. A total of 113 police officers have been injured in recent days.
There was initially no information on the number of injured demonstrators. According to media reports, police used water cannon and tear gas against demonstrators that night and some participants set up barricades.
The course is not aimed towards the EU
On Sunday, Georgia’s pro-European President Salome Zurabishvili called for new parliamentary elections in light of mass protests in the country. After the accusations of election fraud and the fact that the government has turned away from the EU course, the way to a new vote must be found.
