Cyclone Feng has claimed at least three lives in southern India. Amid countless videos of devastation on social media, footage of an IndiGo Airlines Airbus A320 neo attempting to land at Chennai International Airport during the cyclone is causing a stir (see video above)…
The pilots of an IndiGo plane had their hands full landing at the airport in Mumbai, India on Friday: the plane was caught in the gusts of tropical storm “Fengal” and the pilots had to take off.
The pilot must abort the landing
As the footage shows, pilots of an IndiGo aircraft had their hands full. Prepared for a landing in heavy rain and storms. When the plane’s wheels are within inches of the runway, the pilot aborts the landing and takes off again.
“That could have ended badly in Chennai. An Airbus A320neo of IndiGo Airlines struggled to land as Cyclone ‘Fengal’ made landfall,” wrote an aviation critic who shared the video on X (formerly Twitter).
“Wing almost hit the ground”
“The crosswinds must have been crazy. The wing has almost hit (the ground). Super happy,” wrote another X user. Another user wrote: “Terrible decision by pilot, huge risk – should have turned back.”
In response to the dangerous conditions, all further flights at the Chennai airport were eventually canceled on Saturday. Cyclone “Fengal” made landfall at speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour, it was said.
