The 41-year-old, who has multiple disabilities, has to be pushed by two people in the hilly Mühlviertel when the aging drivetrain breaks down. She is completely dependent on care and support and cannot see or speak. Their senses are stimulated with different scents.
“Isabel is a real ray of sunshine,” supervisors at her workshop for the disabled say about the 41-year-old from the Perg district. She likes to laugh and clearly feels comfortable in the company of others.
Severe seizures
The woman from Mühlviertel has suffered from multiple disabilities since birth. Isabel can’t talk, she can only distinguish between light and dark, and she can’t hear much either. She is usually in a wheelchair and dependent on care and support. Unfortunately, due to cerebral palsy, she is tormented by severe seizures at irregular intervals.
It is particularly important for Isabel’s quality of life that her senses are constantly stimulated and that she can perceive new experiences and impressions.
A different scent every day
For example, essential oils stimulate your sense of smell. For her, every day of the week smells different: Monday smells like lemon, Tuesday like lavender, Wednesday like rose, Thursday like spruce, Friday like tangerine. Isabel spends her weekends at home with her family.
She also likes to be lightly tickled; touch from familiar people increases her well-being. Christmas music also makes her smile. The 41-year-old’s main sources of relaxation include hot tubs and outdoor walks, either with her mother or caregivers.
Repair-sensitive engine
Isabel then fully enjoys the warmth of the sun or the cool wind on her skin. Unfortunately, the wheelchair she relies on is very heavy and she needs an extra motor in the hilly landscape of the Mühlviertel. The current one is very old and needs to be repaired.
During the period of preparation, the young woman always eagerly awaits the next journey. Unfortunately, without an auxiliary motor, these are only possible with two helpers.
A new motorcycle costs 3,500 euros, but is not reimbursed by the health insurer. For Isabel’s mother, financing would be a huge burden that she could hardly handle on her own. She now very much hopes for the help of the “Krone” family.
