Pilot (83) autopsy performed – cockpit emergency as reason for plane crash

Date:

After the autopsy of the 83-year-old pilot, the cause of the tragedy at the Pfarrstuhl in Waldviertel (Lower Austria) must be clarified. It is said that he previously had massive health problems.

About four days after the tragic death of experienced pilot Harald “Harry” Becker (83), the cause of the crash on the Pfarrstuhl in the Waidhofen an der Thaya district has now been clarified. According to preliminary autopsy results, the former businessman from Weitra in the Gmünd district had major health problems shortly before the fatal crash. It is currently unclear whether a technical defect in the small device also played a role.

An expert commissioned by the Public Prosecution Service got to work on Wednesday and carefully examined the first parts of the accident wreckage. The aircraft accident committee was also on site. The first findings are expected on Thursday.

As reported, Becker was not only an extremely passionate pilot, but with 45 years of flying experience, he was also one of the most experienced pilots of the Union Waldviertel flying group. However, on Sunday he would leave for the last time. Austro Control and eyewitnesses reported the crash around 3:30 p.m. As a result, about 250 firefighters searched in the fog and as darkness fell for the crash site in the middle of impassable forest area. But all help came too late for the popular Waldviertler.
