Spectacular accident on Sunday in the early morning hours on the Inntalautobahn in the Tiroler Unterland: The driver of a horse transporter came from the A12 at Wattens, probably by a microtow, after which the truck and trailer ended up on an adjacent path. According to the police, the driver and the seven transported tournament horses suffered minor injuries.
The accident happened around 3 a.m.: The 54-year-old Italian was on his way west with the horse transporter on the A12 when he probably went off the highway due to microsleep near Wattens.
Injured horses rescued by firefighters
“The truck and caravan then turned right on a service road and came to a stop on its side,” the investigators said. “There were a total of seven competition horses in the truck. They were freed by the Innsbruck fire brigade and the Schwaz fire brigade and then subjected to a veterinary check.”
The animals, which suffered minor injuries as a result of the accident, were able to be housed in nearby stables.
Driver taken to hospital
The truck driver also suffered minor injuries. After receiving first aid at the scene of the accident, he was taken to the Halleziekenhuis. His 21-year-old companion escaped unscathed.
