Family father pretends to be dead and moves in with his loved one

Date:

The Ryan Borgwardt case shocked people in his hometown of Watertown in two ways. Initially, family, friends and neighbors believed the father of three had drowned in a lake. Until the police shocked with the news that the 44-year-old had only faked his death so he could move in with his loved one!

Borgwardt sent a video to police with details about his disappearance.

But back to the background: the presumed deceased man owned a wood processing company and apparently lived happily with his wife Emily and their three children in Watertown.

Faked kayaking accident
When he didn’t return home on August 11 after kayaking in a nearby lake, his wife called the police. Police found the capsized kayak floating in Green Lake, along with a waterproof fishing container containing keys, wallet and cell phone. His locked truck was also still on the bank.

Despite an extensive search, the 44-year-old’s body was not found and his wife Emily officially said goodbye on Facebook in October: “God brought Ryan home much earlier than we would have liked.” Only shortly afterwards it turned out that her husband was not in heaven, but with a mistress in Eastern Europe!

At the end of October, Canadian authorities informed police in Wisconsin that Ryans Borgwardt’s passport had been scanned at a Canadian border crossing on August 13. In mid-November, Watertown Sheriff Mike Podoll addressed the crowd: “We believe Borgwardt is alive. We found out that in January he had taken out a large life insurance policy on himself, bought a voucher for a plane ticket and transferred money from his company to a foreign bank.” The married man had been communicating with him for months via a secret email. address Woman in Uzbekistan communicates.

Researchers used this email address to ask for a sign of life. This happened now. According to the transcript of the video submitted, Borgwardt stands in front of a gray apartment door and says, “Good evening, this is Ryan Borgwardt. Today is November 11th and it is ten o’clock in the morning where you live. I am in my apartment, completely safe, unharmed!”

Escape with a rubber boat and e-bike
In a subsequent post, Borgwardt also revealed how he faked his death: he rowed a dinghy to shore and rode an e-bike to the city of Madison. From there he took a bus to Canada, from where he then flew to Europe.

For Podoll, the facts are enough: “It’s clearly him. I feel incredibly sorry for the wife and children – I can’t even imagine what they must be going through.” Should Borgwardt return to the US, an arrest warrant awaits him – also for attempted insurance fraud.
