For a group of young people from Steyr’s transgender community, the peaceful Pride parade in Linz ended in hospital. After they had celebrated enthusiastically, she was insulted at the pigeon market and brutally beaten by other young people.
“My child was badly bitten and kicked, her top was torn. She also hit her head on the pavement. Five boys are said to have sat on her. And those who did not participate in the fight filmed it with their smartphones. Only after the police had arrived, the crooks released their victims and they ran away,” Mama Karin K. reported on Sunday to the “Krone”.
Problem started in local
The altercation started at the McDonalds branch on Taubenmarkt, where the group of 14 to 18-year-old Steyrers wanted to buy food before going home. “A few girls then went to the toilet, but were chased away by the cleaning staff because they didn’t look feminine enough. They were also not allowed to go to the men’s room.”
The situation apparently prompted other young guys to attack the Steyrer. They followed the girls out of the bar, beating them and even smashing a glass bottle on a girl’s head. Help came only from other visitors to the Pride parade, who were also on their way back and intervened. These helpers were also attacked, according to a video that has appeared on social media.
Police review videos
On Sunday, the victims were still in shock. Mother Karin K.∙ “I called the police. There were reportedly more than 200 people at the pigeon market at the time.” Police are now reviewing statements and looking for videos of the incident There was confusion and the attackers were able to escape.
Karin K. also does not want to sit still: “It would be important to get incriminating images. I am willing to pay a reward. Such attacks cannot simply be accepted.”
